Summary

The Sariska Tiger Reserve in Alwar district was home to 959 families across 29 villages. In 2007, the Rajasthan government notified 881.11 square km of the tiger reserve area as Critical Tiger Habitat and decided to relocate the tribals and forest dwellers there to nearby villages. Over years, as the forest department officials began the process of relocating the affected families, people complained they have not been provided with adequate amenities. Also, the relocation has adversely affected their livelihood. There were also allegations that the forest department is coercing them to leave the park. "Majority of the families that had shifted opted for land packages as it is beneficial for them. The package includes 6 bighas of agriculture land, 60*90 sq ft plot and electric connection for agriculture," Times of India quoted a district official as saying in November 2020. As of June 2021, the relocation of the villagers still continues.
