Summary

The Mohan Road Yojana of the Lucknow Development Authority, which received much appreciation during the UP Investor's Summit, is encountering severe protests from the farmers, whose lands have been acquired. The project is planned based on public-private partnership model.

The LDA's attempts at acquiring the land failed in 2018 after the protestors chased their team away from the site. The protesting farmers demand a compensation four times the circle rate. They have also approached the District Magistrate to redress their complaint.

In November 2019, it was reported that LDA fixed a meeting to discuss the demands of the farmers and the distress caused to allottees due to the delay. The authorities are ready to give compensation up to twice the circle rate. The compensation will be given under LARR, 2013. There have also proposed to collect user charges in the colonies.

In September 2020, it was reported, that the work will resume by late 2020. A verbal consensus had been reached between different farmers and officials, however, they are waiting for a written consent from farmers. Another report in September 2020, mentions that the authority hasn't yet taken possession of land to start construction. It says that around 30,000 families could have received homes if work on the scheme had started. The report also criticses that LDA's financial model whereby private developers build the apartments but aren't financing the LDA for compensation to landowners.
