Summary

Residents of Sankarpala village in Junagarh tehsil of Odisha's Kalahandi district are awaiting forest rights titles for several years now. The Gram Sabha's claim for Community Forest Rights over a patch of land is yet to be recognised. The land claimed is spread over 660 acres and was instead used by authorities to carry out plantations under CAMPA funds. The forest department had also restricted community members from accessing the land and prohibited collection of NonTimber Forest Products. Following protests by the people, no plantations have been carried out.
