Jurkabhatta village is located inside a dense forest in Lanjigarh block in the NorthEast division of Kalahandi. The villagers had claimed community forest rights over 550 acres of land here, which are still pending with the district administration. The forest department carried out CAMPA funded plantation over the land claimed by the Gram Sabha, without any discussion with the community. People from the community also allege that forest officials had threatened them with consequences in case of protests. When LCW reached out to the villagers in October 2021, they informed that no new plantation activities have been undertaken in the village for the last few years.
